In the midst of a rough economy, non-profits such as [intlink id=”204″ type=”page”]AIDS/LifeCycle[/intlink] are looking for creative ways to fundraise. So they asked me to build a Flash eCard that participants could send to friends and family, directing them to the participant’s AIDS/LifeCycle homepage.
To keep development costs low, I bought two Flash movies from iStockPhoto — one with a background of moving hearts, and another with an animated cyclist. I combined them in Flash, added horizontal motion to the cyclist, gave the AIDS/LifeCycle logo an outer glow and reflection, modified the donation button, and wrote/animated my own text.

AIDS/LifeCycle then uploaded the Flash SWF to their Convio platform so participants could start sending them out. The SWF read in the participant’s name and participant number from the URL through ActionScript’s createObjectFromURLEncoded function.
I also designed the email that linked to the ecard. Participants could write the body of the email.
