Today we delivered a screensaver to AIDS/LifeCycle, who will gift it to participants who complete a survey about the event. The director asked me to gather my best photos from the last few years of the event, provided me a list of inspirational quotes, and let me loose.
First, I pored through my massive Adobe Lightroom catalog, and thanked my lucky stars that I had recently given it an organizational overhaul. Choosing AIDS/LifeCycle photos is always fun, but a balancing act — the event marketing needs to reflect the diversity of the event, so any group of pictures should highlight the range of ethnicities, ages, genders, cyclists and volunteers.
Next I used the fantastic Slideshow Pro for Flash to build the slideshow. It’s a powerful, highly configurable Flash component with a slick interface. It’s easy to swap out photos and captions since the component pulls in its data from an XML file.
Finally, I imported the Flash slideshows into the screensaver creation program Screentime for Flash. I tried a couple of lower-cost programs, but they just didn’t offer the flexibility of Screentime.
I’m thrilled that my photos will be gracing AIDS/LifeCycle participants’ screens in their full-resolution glory!
Here’s a reduced-size version of the slideshow.
